Where Questrade shines

Questrade offers a wide range of investments and account types—including fractional share trading—and its desktop and mobile platforms are easy to use. Sign up for an account in minutes, upload a handful of personal documents, fund your account and then start trading at home or on the go with Questrade‘s desktop and mobile apps.

Use the Edge version of the platform if you’d like to take advantage of price alerts, a profit and loss calculator (with a Questrade Plus subscription) and hotkeys to more precisely execute trades. Not quite sold yet? A representative can help you take the platform for a test run with a Questrade practice account.

Where Questrade falls short

Questrade’s biggest drawback is its high minimum investment threshold for bonds, IPOs and GICs. You need to open an account and invest at least $5,000 to trade bonds, most GICs (some have higher minimums) and IPOs. Some other online trading platforms like CIBC Investor’s Edge have lower minimum investment requirements.
