How to buy Slack shares

Grab a slice of the instant messaging service that keeps us more connected than ever to our colleagues (yay... I think!) by buying Salesforce shares.

You can't invest directly in Slack, but you can buy shares in Salesforce, which bought out Slack in 2021. At that point in time, Slack delisted from the NewYork Stock Exchange (NYSE), and those who already held Slack shares (under the quite-clever stock code WORK) found themselves the proud (hopefully) owners of Salesforce shares .

Salesforce is listed on the NYSE with the also-quite-clever stock code "CRM". It's important to note that Slack is just one arm of Salesforce though (albeit a very well known one). So that means that Salesforce's share price will be influenced by more than just the popularity of Slack.

  3. Search the platform by ticker symbol. CRM in this case.
  4. Choose an order type. Place a market order (or limit order, if you want to try to hold out for a specific price) with your preferred number of shares or investment amount.
  5. Submit the order. It's that simple.
The whole process can take as little as 15 minutes. You'll need a smartphone or computer, an internet connection, your passport or driving licence and a means of payment.

Is Slack (Salesforce) under- or over-valued?

Valuing a stock is incredibly difficult, and any metric has to be viewed as part of a bigger picture of overall performance. However, analysts commonly use some key metrics to help gauge value. Check out the Slack (Salesforce) P/E ratio, PEG ratio and EBITDA.

Slack (Salesforce)'s current share price divided by its per-share earnings (EPS) over a 12-month period gives a "trailing price/earnings ratio" of roughly 42x. In other words, Slack (Salesforce)'s shares trade at around 42x recent earnings.

That's relatively high compared to, say, the trailing 12-month P/E ratio for the United States stock markets on average as of March 2025 (25.37). The high P/E ratio could mean that investors are optimistic about the outlook for the shares or simply that they're over-valued.

Slack (Salesforce)'s "price/earnings-to-growth ratio" can be calculated by dividing its P/E ratio by its growth – to give 1.181. A PEG ratio close to 1 can be interpreted as meaning shares offer reasonable value for the current rate of growth.

The PEG ratio provides a broader view than just the P/E ratio, as it gives more insight into Slack (Salesforce)'s future profitability. By accounting for growth, it could also help you if you're comparing the share prices of multiple high-growth companies.

Slack (Salesforce)'s EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) is a whopping $11.2 billion (£8.3 billion).

The EBITDA is a measure of Slack (Salesforce)'s overall financial performance and is widely used to measure a its profitability.
